Why Halo
The idea for Halo was conceived while
CEO/Founder Ken Garcia and his wife Carrie watched their triplet boys playing
on their home carpeting.
We realized that even though we vacuumed our carpet, it was still not clean.
And we knew that life-long allergies are triggered in the first 24 months of
like. Short of removing the carpet completely, we needed another solution.
The Problem
Carpets and mattress contain the highest concentration of germs and
allergens in the home,
including dust mites, viruses bacteria, and mold.
Carpeting covers more that 70 percent of the floor space in all U.S. homes
and is rarely or never disinfected.The average household has millions of dust mites. Those dust mites trigger
allergy symptoms
in about half of all U.S. homes, and asthma symptoms in nearly a quarter
of all U.S. homes
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 35 to 50
million American come down with the flu during each flu season.

The World Health Organization estimates that 150 million people worldwide
suffer from asthma,
including 4.8 million U.S. children.
Several studies have shown that exposure to dust mites and other allergens in

Over the last several years, the team at Halo Technologies
worked with Dr. James R. Bolton, Ph.D., a leading
industry expert on UV-C technology and applications, to
develop the specifications for the new line of Halo Ultraviolet
Vacuums. The patent-pending UV-C bulb chamber used
within Halo Ultraviolet Vacuums has been designed and
engineered to emit UV rays at exactly 253.7 nanometers,
the germicidal bandwidth proven to deactivate the DNA of

To test the efficacy of the Halo
Ultraviolet Vacuum on dust
mites, the team at Halo Technologies engaged Dr. Glen
Needham, Ph.D., professor of Entomology and Acarology
(the study of mites) at The Ohio State University. Dr.
Needham is one of the leading experts on dust
mites in the world. His team at The Ohio State
University conducted tests using the Halo Ultraviolet
Vacuum bulb chamber in December 2005, and he presented
his findings to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma
and Immunology under the title Ultraviolet C Exposure is
Fatal to House Dust Mite Eggs.The study concluded that:
Even small doses of UVC from the Halo Ultraviolet
Vacuum bulb chamber seem to have a fairly significant
effect on the American house dust mite reproduction. We
have found that as little as one second of UVC from the Halo
Ultraviolet Vacuum bulb chamber results in the death of the
American dust mite (AHD) eggs, and five seconds resulted in
nearly 100 percent mortality.
